IELTS OR PTE,
which one is better? Differences and Similarities!
Studying abroad
is one of the dreams youth want to fulfill. There brainstorm their mind to
prepare and execute it. English proficiency is the first step they are
to take. Without English proficiency they cannot start the journey of
studying and working in abroad. Here we are going to discuss about two highly
renowned examinations taken by most of the studying abroad aspirants.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and Pearson
Test of English (PTE) are two popular English Proficiency Tests
widely accepted by educational institutions in Canada, Australia, UK, NZ and European
countries. IELTS and PTE both have some similarities and differences that we
will talk about in this post.
Similarities:-
IELTS and
PTE both tests are
valid for two years. Once you appear in the examination whatever score you achieve
is valid up to two years.
There are
some rumors that PTE is not accepted by some English speaking countries. It is
not true. PTE is widely accepted by schools, colleges and universities in all
English Speaking and European nations.
Both exams
are for English proficiency testing the four skills of students such as Speaking,
Writing, Reading and Listening.
Differences
IELTS is papers based test. Students are
given pencil and papers to execute it.
While PTE is totally computer based test very less human
interference.
IELTS allows you choose what questions to
do first for example in writing it is up to students what writing tasks to
attempt first. In PTE is you are to attempt the sections and questions
you are serviced with. You don’t have any choice to make.
IELTS exam is conducted in two days. There
modules are same day and speaking can be conducted two days prior or
later to Writing, Reading and Listening. PTE is done same day. PTE
covers all four modules same day.
In IELTS,
Speaking test is one to one interaction. There is an interviewer who asks you
questions and you have to respond. There are three parts of speaking test and
it may last 11 to 20 minutes. In PTE you have to record your speaking in
microphone later it is assessed and you are given the grades according to your
proficiency.
PTE provides your results in points or grades
from 0-90. And IELTS is known to give you bands from 0-9.
The result
of IELTS is out on 13th day but PTE does it in 5-6 working days. Some
time it can be 24 hours only.
There is no
negative marking in IELTS but in PTE there are some questions come
under negative marking.
Though there
are same four modules in IELTS and PTE but there are some
differences in questions.
IELTS
listening lasts for 40
minutes. 30 minutes recording and 10 minutes for writing and transferring your
answer to answer sheet. PTE listening lasts from 45- 52 minutes
IELTS reading has 3 passages and 40
questions and students have 60 minutes for it. PTE Reading lasts 32- 40
minutes.
IELTS writing has two tasks known as
writing task 1 and task 2. Task one is for graph, pie chart and map and in task
2 you have to write an essay. In PTE, you will have a passage on your
computer screen and you have to write the summary of it with in 2 lines. Second
is similar to IELTS task 2.
These are
some of the differences we have shared with you. You may be confused which is
best for you.
Taking PTE
or IELTS depends on your computer skills. If you feel comfortable working
on computer you should go for PTE. If you are uncomfortable with
computer you should take paper based test.
There are
rumors that PTE is easier than IELTS it is not true. Both exams
test your skills. If you have hone your skills well than both are for you.
